Wrong Thinking About The Bible

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies (2 Peter 2:1, NASB1995).

False teaching will abound in the end times. It has the intent of attacking the integrity of the Bible and undermining Jesus as the singular Lord of the universe.

Also, to promote ungodliness.

Below are cringe-worthy, wrong, but too often accepted statements about the Bible.

One:  The Bible Contains Myths

Wrong!

Scripture uses allegory, parables, and figurative language to explain and illustrate truth. But rest assured that the resurrection of Jesus is fact. There isn’t another event in ancient history that has more credibility.

Below is a statement by Craig Bloomberg, one of the world’s leading experts on the Bible. Read carefully …

This adds up to a strong case that all three Gospels were composed within about thirty years of Christ’s death (probably A.D. 30) and well within the period of time when people could check up on the accuracy of the facts they contain. The most reliable early tradition suggests a date for John in about the 90s.

With strong historical evidence of the first three gospels written within 30 years of the life of Jesus – how is it possible for these three books (and John, though written in the 90s) to contain myths while witnesses were alive to verify the accounts?

Two:  Jesus doesn’t say anything in opposition to same-sex marriage.

Wrong!

The Bible clearly defines marriage in Genesis 2:24 …

For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.

Jesus repeats this statement in Mark 10:6-8 …

But from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother, and the two shall become one flesh; so they are no longer two, but one flesh.

Jesus doesn’t discuss same-sex marriage, homosexuality, transgender issues, or even child molestation. Jesus, and the Bible, do provide an example of God’s created intentions as a husband and wife becoming one.

The Bible’s purpose was not to discuss every sexual orientation but to give a standard from which to measure all counterclaims.

Three:  There are so many views and opinions about the Bible, no one knows the truth!

Wrong!

The Apostle Peter writes …

But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation (2 Peter 1:20).

Jesus said that He would give us His Spirit to lead us into all truth (John 16:13). Paul explains that we should pray for a Spirit of wisdom and revelation (Ephesians 1:17). And James writes that when we lack wisdom we can ask for it (James 1:5).

The Bible teaches that faith is the key to knowing truth. Every person starts with faith then comes belief. We believe according to our faith – atheists, agnostics, and progressives included.

The author of Hebrews writes …

Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).

Correct!

One final thought: Those who seek Jesus will find Him. Those who live with Jesus as Lord and Savior will find truth!

Jesus said …

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me” (John 14:6).
