Why I Read My Bible In The Morning!

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life (Psalm 143:8, NIV).

Some wake up and have coffee, I wake up for the Word of God. Honestly, I wake up and drink coffee while reading my Bible!

For 50 years, I’ve read my Bible in the morning. Not every morning, but I miss the Word of God when a life situation keeps me from reading my Bible on a particular morning.

It’s always easy if I miss a day reading my Bible to read the next day. It is a habit because I love God’s Word. Have you ever been rushed and didn’t get a cup of coffee in the morning? Was it easy to desire one the next day?

Why? We love coffee, and prayerfully, we love God’s Word too!

Three things happen when I read God’s Word in the morning…

  1. I can have a bad night when the worries of the world are on my shoulders (according to my own imagination). But when I get up and read my Bible, the worries evaporate in the presence of the goodness and greatness of God.

A great way to start the day – anxiety, you are nothing!

  1. I literally feel the presence of God when I read the Bible. This shouldn’t be surprising – since the Spirit inspired the writing of scripture, the Spirit then inhabits God’s Word as we read it.

When I feel Jesus in the morning, I can trust Him and have faith in His wisdom and protection for the coming day.

  1. God gives me truth and guidance by reading the Bible. Hundreds of times I have read a verse of scripture in the morning and then found a need to quote this verse in a conversation that same day.

It’s amazing when I say, “I was just reading about this in the Bible this morning.”

After reading my Bible in the morning, I’ve so often found peace or a solution during my day from those verses, that I’ve thought, “Why is the Bible so timely? It seems like I read it in the morning and need it in the afternoon.”

The answer:  Pastor Grant’s Theory of the Divine Inspiration of Scripture!

I know that God wrote the Bible and that He knew that I was going to be born in 1953. When I was born, God knew every detail of my life in advance, and He knew sovereignly that on September 20, 2022, I would need this bit of wisdom.

God also knew what passage of scripture I would read on the morning of September 20, 2022. By inspiring scripture and knowing my future, it was a simple matter for Him to insert His wisdom into the verses that I would read on September 20, 2022.

Just for me.

Let me review my theory…

From eternity, God knew everything, and when He inspired the Bible, He placed into scripture His Word that I would need on September 20, 2022, in the exact verses that I would read on September 20, 2022.

That’s my God!!!

Don’t worry, God does the same for you too!

But first, you must get up in the morning and read the Bible. And have a cup of coffee too!
