Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us (Hebrews 12:1).
Right now!
Angels, cherubim, and the righteous already in heaven – all worship God. The author of Hebrews indicates they watch us too.
They see everything. We could imagine a large screen: Eternity does “immersive” better than Omnimax©, with surround sound by Bose© speakers the size of Saturn. Their cinematic experience probably can’t be described by earthly standards.
As heaven, not limited by time or three dimensions, simultaneously worships God while witnessing everything on earth.
The plot of time and earth plays out before them.
Heroes and traitors, victors and defeated, those saying “no” to temptation while others succumb – all observed. Actions, thoughts, and motives – nothing hidden.
Created life is learning. Those on earth and those in heaven all grow as God reveals through history His plot of grace and mercy.
There are cheers with worship as we take steps in faith, and undertones of grieving with our disobedience. The sonnet of eternity has both light and dark, adding tension and rejoicing to the worship of heaven.
As the context of life creates the best worship songs on earth, history continuously and simultaneously inspires the choruses of heaven.
Tolstoy, Twain, Handel, Van Gogh, Bob Dylan, and Ed Sheeran, all puffs of misty breath on a cold morning, compared to the Creator not limited by time, a color or sound spectrum, or three dimensions.
God is unlimited. Heaven sees colors never seen, sounds never heard, thoughts beyond current belief, and purposes of good that overshadow evil.
Then one day – silence in heaven. Worshipping stops. A chair of the triple throne is empty. All look to earth. A baby is born.
On earth, angels begin to sing, “Glory to God in the highest” (Luke 2:14).
The most important words of history and eternity are spoken, “In the city of David there has been born for you a savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11).
The focal point revealed. All history grows towards Jesus and then unfolds till He returns.
We live for a moment on earth and then observe from heaven. There will be a list of credits at the end. The only question is whether your name appears in the Book of Life.
For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16).
