Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter (Matthew 7:21, ESV).
Walking in the fulness of God’s blessing depends on knowing God’s will. Below are a few benefits of walking in God’s will.
- We enter the Kingdom of Heaven, both now and in eternity.
- Abundant prayers will be answered when asked according to God’s will.
- We find purpose by following God’s desires.
- Our lives of peace will be attractional convicting others to also enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
What is the secret of finding God’s will? Jesus answers this question with a simple image—the narrow path.
Not everyone who calls out to me, “Lord! Lord!” will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter (Matthew 7:21, NLT).
In following God, there is the path of the many and the path of the few. We can seek the affirmation of God or others. Are we concerned about earthly wealth or eternal reward? Do we seek first His Kingdom?
The narrow path, the narrow gate—it’s our choice.
God’s path isn’t a scroll lowered from heaven with a map of our life—along with rest stops, warnings of path obstructions, and a Google Maps-type voice that shouts, “Warning, warning!” when a demon approaches for temptation.
Walking the narrow path is taking a step at a time.
I find this step-by-step approach less stressful because if I misstep today, it’s only a step back tomorrow. The problem becomes more critical when we have a few weeks, months, or years of missteps and are now lost in the wilderness.
While pastoring, a high percentage of my counseling involved the ensuing problems of people who wandered off their narrow path. Often, they were complaining to God about the thorns found on the path of their decisions.
Too many Christians have never experienced the peace of walking in God’s will.
The Apostle Paul writes, “Let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts” (Colossians 3:15, KJV).
The Greek word for “rule” is the root word from which we get “umpire,” which means “have the final call.”
The secret of staying on the narrow path is allowing Jesus to lead, seek His wisdom, and always follow His calling.
