His delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law, he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. Psalm 1:1-2
I was a young Christian. I made a mistake.
It wasn’t a “big sin” like getting drunk, cursing at a church member, or reading something sensual. It was a leadership-style issue and my arrogance had hurt someone. I asked forgiveness and it didn’t work – the person left the ministry. I went into the doldrums and for a week I looked like a haggardly desert hermit.
One morning I read, Psalm 25:7:
Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions; According to Your lovingkindness remember me, For Your goodness’ sake, O Lord. NASB95
Grace replaced self-condemnation. A timely word from God brings freedom.
The Psalms are written as “timely words” to encourage, challenge, and empower. I read Psalms most days and have underlined or bookmarked verses that have been “timely words” from God.
Several years ago, I began texting these verses to others. I would hear of a sickness or difficulty – and like you – even as a pastor, my words failed. I didn’t know what to say so I began texting Psalms.
Praying for you. Psalm 25:20
Not always Psalm 25:20 (it is great when we make a mistake). Below are my favorite texting verses.
You have put gladness in my heart. Psalm 4:7
May the fire of God fall on your heart. Psalm 5:3 TPT
May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble. Psalm 20:1
May He grant you your heart’s desire. Psalm 20:4
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? Psalm 27:1
You have been my help. Psalm 63:7
He will give His angels charge concerning you, to guard you in all your ways. Psalm 91:11
Who pardons all your sins and heals all your diseases. Psalm 103:3
Please read the list above over and over a few times. Imagine that you have just received a text from me. Whenever you read the above verses the Spirit will speak – to you!
