In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. John 1:1-3 ESV
I believe we should speak aloud the Word of God. Speaking has a greater impact than reading or listening to a recording of the Bible.
Try it – turn to John 1:1-13 and read it silently. Then read while speaking. It will immediately have more impact as you are seeing, speaking, and hearing God’s Word.
In Genesis 1 God spoke and everything existed.
I read a recent article in which a scientist suggested that physics can only study the universe about one trillionth of a trillion of a second after it began. The article said that before the “trillionth of a second thing” there was something called “dark energy.” This “dark energy” didn’t stick around for long but did cause the universe to accelerate into expansion.
HHHHMMMHHM. I think scripture does a better job of explaining the origin of the universe.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. Genesis 1:1-3
Understand the chain: God spoke, and the universe existed. Jesus is the embodiment of the Word, and all things were created through Him. Scripture was breathed into existence by God just like the universe. This Word becomes a part of us through His Spirit and leads us into holiness.
Jesus said, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.” John 6:63 ESV
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness. 2 Timothy 3:16
Why this emphasis on the “Word” in both scripture and in my blog?
The “Word” describes and defines God. He is truth and light. He is the Word. When we speak the Word of God – our physical presence, scripture, and the Spirit come together uniquely in power. As James says, “Receive the word implanted which is able to save your soul” (James 1:21).
Again, try it. Read scripture aloud.
There is a presence and power to the spoken Word of God. When Jesus spoke, demons fled, and disease was healed.
The first century was a “read aloud” culture. You went to synagogue and scripture was read. You didn’t have a copy to take home and read by candlelight. You went to synagogue the next week and scripture was read aloud again.
You learn, memorize, and understand the Word by someone speaking the Word. We have Bibles, we have podcasts, we have blogs, we have books, and we have apps. Have we lost the personally spoken word?
Do you need the presence and power in your life from saying the Words of God?
Please try it!
