Increasing Our Capacity

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

May Jesus equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen (Hebrews 13:21).

Growth is an essential part of Kingdom living.

Jesus wants us to grow in grace and peace, and He has commanded all of us to bring forth fruit through discipling the nations. We can only serve, and we can only work if we have the capacity in time, emotion, and energy.

Yet, I constantly watch people fumble their capacity – acting busy while accomplishing little, having misplaced priorities and their future shrinking from past difficulties.

I also witness saints with little talent accomplishing many things, former drug addicts developing large ministries, and parents with jobs and children volunteering in significant service.

The difference? Capacity!

All of us should seek to increase capacity for work and service. When we have capacity, we “do,” and when we lose capacity or think we don’t have capacity, we “don’t.”

Faith increases capacity. Discouragement decreases capacity.

The author of Hebrews gives a simple and easy-to-follow formula for increasing our capacity …

Do His will, in His power, and for His glory!

Lacking any of the three will eliminate capacity. Note:  We can’t avoid life, and it will be busy, but knowing the secret of increasing our capacity will prepare us to have peace –  while overcoming whatever comes at us.

Do His will!

Paul writes in Ephesians 4:1, that we should walk in a manner worthy of the calling of Jesus in our lives. Understanding and prioritizing our calling will protect our time and sanity.

The key to walking in calling is simple. We ask before all major decisions, “Is this seeking first the Kingdom of God?”

In His power!

Obviously, we won’t have His power if we aren’t walking in our calling.

The secret of walking in power is waiting and not charging ahead. Let’s think before our next major decision, “I wait before I walk.” Waiting allows us to discern both God’s will and His plan to accomplish it.

When God is at work, there is peace; when we run ahead, our energy dissipates quickly.

For His Glory!

Watch out!

I’ve witnessed too many successful saints know God’s will, walk in His power, and then take the glory for themselves! When we take our eyes off God and focus on our pride, we disconnect from our Lifeline.

Keeping our power source plugged in is easy – let’s discipline ourselves to praise. Gratitude diminishes pride and increases hope.

That’s it. To increase capacity, our ability to serve, and sometimes to just survive …

Do His will, in His power, for His glory!
