Romans 12 was the first chapter of the Bible that I memorized.
For years I focused on verse 1, “I urge you brothers and sisters, my the mercies of God to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice acceptable to God which is your spiritual form of worship.” Then I began to realize verse 2 is key to the chapter and to victory in following God, “Don’t be conformed to the world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will find the good, acceptable and perfect will of God.”
What I learned — God is big and I am small. You are too!
A renewed mind focuses on God and a mind focused on the glory of God, can only conclude the inadequacy of anything created. The bigger God becomes, the more faith you have to follow His will. The less you focus upon God, the bigger you become.
You are a small god and without God you will self-serve your desires, your possessions, and your ambitions.
God is big and I am small. You are too!
If God is big in your life then fear will be small. If fear is big in your life then God must get bigger. Scripture says that perfect love casts out fear or loving God eliminates fear. God will ask you to run at your fears — if you are afraid to travel, He will ask you to travel; if you are afraid of speaking publicly, He will give you a job in which you speak; if you love money, He will ask you to give generously.
My greatest fear list has been travel. Never wanted to and I have been out of the country at least 85 times. For fifty years, I have dealt with a fear of public speaking by public speaking several times a week. I think of my bills every time that I give tithes and offerings, yet I have given tithes and offerings from every paycheck since becoming a Christian.
If God is big in your life then all sisters and brothers will be equal. A big God created many races and also gender. We are all created in the image of God. All those who profess Jesus as Lord and Savior are the family of God. For 2,000 years Christians have served a much smaller god and thus tolerated abuse against members of the same body of Christ.
If God is big in your life then you will change. I believe the dreaded lukewarm Christian refuses to change. For the next few years there will be more change in culture and church than in the past 2,ooo years combined. All of this change has been predicted and planned by a big God. Some followers will get stuck in fear but those who strive to keep in ‘step with the Spirit’ (Galatians 5:25) will encounter a Big God.
Experiencing God means supernatural peace, power, and provision. (Philippians 4:7,13, & 19)
Let me conclude with a short rant: God is big and you are small. If you are big then God is small. If God is small then your life becomes a big problem. The bigger God, then the smaller your problems. Follow a big God and discover big blessings.
I need a big God. You do too!
