Five Ways to Prove God’s Existence

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Only fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good! (Psalm 53:1, NLT)

On the Day of Judgment, anyone who claims there is no evidence for the existence of God will be judged as foolish.

I don’t want to stand in the Presence of God and say, “Uh, God, I didn’t believe you existed.” What an embarrassment to atheists like Voltaire, Woody Allen, Sigmund Freud, and that professor of mine at a secular university who taught Biblical Greek and, I don’t think, believed in the God of the Bible.

All their combined wisdom, popularity, wit in writing, and education, on the last day, will be summed up as “bunk” or stupid.

To avoid this eternal catastrophe, God has given us sufficient evidence for His existence. One of my favorite philosophers was Thomas Aquinas and he devised what he called “The Five Ways” that we know God exists.

Let’s review them…

  1. Everything that moves must have a Prime Mover.
  2. The sequence of causes that make up the universe must have a First Cause.
  3. Since all beings depend upon preceding beings, there must be a being that has no preceding beings and is thus the Necessary Being.
  4. Since all beings talk about the goodness of other beings, there must be an Absolutely Good Being that originates all such comparing.
  5. The intricated design and order of existent beings imply that a Great Designer exists.

Thomas Aquinas, besides being a philosopher, was also an astute biblical theologian. We can see that Prime Mover, First Cause, Necessary Being, Absolutely Good Being, and Great Designer are descriptions of God from the Bible.

Yay, Thomas Aquinas!

However, since Thomas came up with his Five Ways (about 1250 A.D.), it has been constantly debunked by atheists. Have they succeeded? I don’t think so, and I say, “I don’t think so,” because when I read many of these philosophical atheists, I can’t understand what they are saying.

But I can see an easily reasoned common sense need for a Prime Mover, First Cause, Necessary Being, Absolutely Good Being, and a Great Designer.

Life as we know it would cease to exist without this supreme being.

Thomas Aquinas proved the existence of God by combining observations from nature with revelation of the characteristics of God from the Bible—or five ways to prove God’s existence by understanding five attributes of God.

And if we don’t complicate things with the foolishness of human wisdom, on the Day of Judgment, God will look at us and say…

Well done, good and faithful servant!

Let’s debunk the foolishness that claims there is no God.
