Eight facts of an amazing chapter:
#1. The chapter works difficult theology with practical application. An example is the topic of predestination (chosen by God) in verse 30, with the corresponding implications of victory that if God is for us who can be against us in verse 31.
#2. This chapter intertwines your past, present, and future. Past: No condemnation for anything that you have done in verse 1. Present: You are an adopted child of God in verse 16. Future: the sufferings of the present can’t be compared with future glory in verse 18.
#3. This chapter gives you the correct attitude for a victorious Christian life. Read verse 31 repeatedly – If God is for us, who can be against us? Then read verse 37 over and over – In all these things we overwhelmingly conquer!
#4. I memorized this chapter 30 years ago. My favorite verse is 14 – For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons and daughters of God.
#5. The most discussed verse as to meaning is verse 26 – The Spirit helps our weakness; for we do not know to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. You may not understand this verse (that’s the point, as we often don’t know how to pray). Let the Spirit pray for you!
#6. The chapter teaches great theology for environmental concerns in verses 19 to 22 – For the anxious longing of creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons and daughters of God… that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption. Sons and daughters are now revealed, and we should take the lead in society with our thoughtful care of nature.
#7. Two of the most amazing promises in the entire Bible are in verse 35 – Nothing can separate us from the love of God, and in verse 37 – But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer.
#8. Those who follow the teachings of Romans 8 will have – life and peace (v. 6)!
I could have entitled this Interruption – The Thirty-Nine Amazing Facts of Romans 8. There are 39 verses in the chapter and all of them have great teaching and application.
I didn’t use this title as it would entail an overly long Interruption! However, please read the entire chapter – all 39 verses.
Repeatedly, and again and again!
