And you know that the Scriptures cannot be altered (John 10:35, NLT).
When discussing Scripture, someone might say, “That’s your opinion.” And while I believe that people should have their own opinions since I have too many of them myself. . .
I do believe the Bible says five things that are so incontrovertible from Scripture that they are beyond opinion!
Not open for opinion statement #1: Jesus is the only way to find salvation
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me” (John 14:6, NLT).
There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
Not open for opinion statement #2: God created everything
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1).
Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything (Colossians 1:15-16a).
Not open for opinion #3: Marriage is between a male and female
Moses says, “This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one” (Genesis 2:24).
Jesus says, “This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one” (Matthew 19:5).
The Apostle Paul says, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one” (Ephesians 5:31).
Not open for opinion #4: Scripture is God’s Word
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right (2 Timothy 3:16).
But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season (Psalm 1:2-3a).
Not open for opinion #5: Judgment Day
For [God] has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed (Acts 17:31a).
I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books (Revelation 20:12).
The number one rule for interpreting Scripture is “plain meaning.” When we consider the literal meaning of the Scriptures listed above in the five “not open for opinion” statements—the simple meaning of Scripture is clear.
On these topics only God’s opinion matters.
