How to Grow Faith

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith” (Romans 1:17, ESV).

Faith is miraculous. The Apostle Paul teaches that faith is a gift from God (Ephesians 2:8).

The gift of faith isn’t a once and for all blessing received at new birth that lasts ‘til heaven. Our faith grows incrementally. The Bible pictures Abraham growing in his faith (Romans 4:20) and describes the church in Thessalonica with the phrase, “your faith is growing abundantly” (1 Thessalonians 1:3, ESV).

I want to grow in faith. The disciples asked Jesus to increase their faith (Luke 17:5). We should ask too.

How do we grow in faith?

Take steps of obedience … yes! Memorize verses of Scripture on faith … amen! Sacrifice with tithes and offerings … certainly. But faith is more than works or what we do.

It’s miraculous.

To grow in faith, we must become familiar, excited, and expectant of miracles.

Faith, at its core, is supernatural, like believing a dead body can be raised from the dead. And since we are to grow from faith (miracle) to faith (miracle), how is it possible without continually experiencing the impossible?

We don’t need a Google search to find God. There are no algorithms to release His miracles. Relax, He will find us.

I’ve talked about faith with thousands of followers of Jesus, and many described something supernatural that happened to them.

Those growing in faith took these experiences and used them as foundations for future miracles, while others forgot about it and went back to their former life. We can have faith to faith or faith back to complacency.

Do we expect miracles today? It’s how we grow in faith.

The Book of Romans says …

Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ (Romans 10:17, ESV).

What is the Word of Christ for you now?

The Greek word for “word” in Romans 10:17 is “rhema.” The Greek word for “word” in John 1:1 is “logos.” Logos is Jesus, while rhema is His spoken Word to us! When Jesus speaks, our mustard-seed steps of faith are required.

Then we experience His miracles, with growing faith for greater miracles. Paul was so excited about His increasing faith that he wrote to all of us …

Let us keep in step with the Spirit (Galatians 5:25).

Amen!
