You shall call His name Jesus; He will save His people from their sins (Matthew 1:21).
Is there something unique and powerful about the name of Jesus?
When we read, “He will save His people…,” it literally means Jesus will totally restore to health!
I wrote my master’s thesis on the Greek word for “save.” The word indicates total salvation and healing for spirit, soul, and body. The name of Jesus heals spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
In the first recorded miracle of the young church in the book of Acts, Peter and John encountered a man who couldn’t walk and was carried daily to the temple to beg for alms.
Peter said to him:
But Peter said, “I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene—walk!” (Acts 3:6)
Is there something about the name of Jesus? Is the power in that name needed today?
I recently read about a 1432 plaque in Lisbon, Portugal. Thousands were sick and dying. Monsignor Andre Dias, a Dominican priest, began walking the street telling everyone to speak the name of Jesus over and over.
“Write it on cards,” he told them. “Keep those cards with you at all times; place them on your doors, but above all, constantly invoke with your lips this most powerful name.”
Below is an exact quote from the book that I read:
Wonder of wonders! The sick got well, the dying rose from their agonies, the plague ceased, and the city was delivered in a few days.
The Bible treated names as indicative of your character, authority, and power. If an emissary of the king knocked on your door and said, “In the name of the king, you are to _____________.” You can fill in the blank, for whatever was asked in the name of the king, you would do.
In spiritual realms, where real power lies, the Apostle Paul writes about the name of Jesus:
For this reason, also, God highly exalted Jesus, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name (Philippians 2:9).
Illness and emotional distress with roots in the demonic, disease caused by a virus – all can fall from the power found in the name of Jesus.
Twice in my life, I was troubled by a physical illness. A lingering problem causing pain and irritation. Both times I heard the Spirit say, “Speak to the pain to be gone in the Name of Jesus.”
It worked!
Through the years, the pain comes back; I speak the name of Jesus and it goes away.
There is power in the name of Jesus. That power is needed today.
Be radical with the name. Speak it often. Write “Jesus, Jesus” on Post-it® notes and stick them on your morning mirror. If it seems weird, persevere. If nothing happens, don’t stop.
There is testimony from thousands of saints throughout church history that Jesus is Lord of lords and King of kings. This power overrules principalities and can heal all diseases.
Jesus, Jesus – He has come to save!
