Commanding Storms

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

There arose a great storm on the sea so that the boat was being covered with the waves, but Jesus Himself was asleep. And they came to Him and woke Him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing!” He said to them, “Why are you afraid, you men of little faith?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it became perfectly calm. The men were amazed, and said, “What kind of a man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?” Matthew 8:24-27 ESV

Trials will come in the end days with increasing intensity and frequency. Peace is found knowing that Jesus calms storms.

We are to be like him. Jesus said:

I tell you this timeless truth: The person who follows me in faith, believing in me, will do the same mighty miracles that I do – even greater miracles than these because I go to be with my Father!  John 14:12 TPT

Jesus commanded storms; you need to as well.

The word for “rebuke” is used often in the New Testament against the demonic. Like saying, “I rebuke you, bad person!” It’s personal. Also, for rebuking fevers, unclean spirits, and the storm in Matthew 8.

This storm on the Sea of Galilee was a satanic attack against the lives of Jesus and the apostles. Jesus rebuked the storm – the satanic origins of the storm. When Jesus spoke,“…it became perfectly calm.”

Have you ever said to an increasing storm in your life, “I command this storm to stop!”? If not, why not? Jesus asked the disciples, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?”

I admit my lack of faith. I’ve been asking Jesus to increase my faith recently.

The “commanding storms to stop” has literal implications in my life. The house that Barbara and I built 22 years ago was severely damaged by a lightning strike, three times my basement incurred significant damage by storm sewer backups, we experienced a total house fire and replacement, and just this year, a straight-line wind damaged the roofs of six of the seven homes in my neighborhood – yep, my house was one of them.

In the name of Jesus, I command that the storms stop.

We all experience days to weeks and sometimes years when the attacks, the sicknesses, the accidents, and the financial difficulties don’t stop. We pray, we ask others to pray, and we grow weary.

The pressure of demonic attacks can wear your faith thin and even cause illness.

Is Jesus asking us, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Are we doing the great works of Jesus by commanding the storms to stop? How does this apply to our cities and our nation, and about taking the gospel to the ends of the earth?

In the name of Jesus, we command this storm to stop.

What do you fear? I have noticed that fear acts as incense attracting demons. They discern your fear and sensing weakness, become relentless. Discern and confess your fears, then stand in faith.

The apostle Peter writes, “The devil prowls about like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith” (1 Peter 5:8-9).

Repenting of my fears, by the blood of Jesus, I command this storm to stop!
