Someone once told me, “I feel helpless; I’m overwhelmed.” What!?
With all the spiritual weaponry described in the New Testament at our disposal! Understanding these weapons in both knowledge of their existence and with practical experience is essential. In any spiritual fight, you are in an M1 tank while the hordes of hell attack you with dull kitchen knives.
The Bible sums up your battle:
But we thank God for giving us the victory as conquerors through our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One. 1 Corinthians 15:57 TPT
You are never helpless! In the M1 tank of your faith, you are both protected against attack but also able to initiate and win battles. Faith rattles the enemy.
Spiritual forces of evil standing around before battle, then one of them says, “We are going to attack [insert your name] today. What, wait, what is that sound? Oh no, an M1 tank is crossing the battlefield towards us. Let’s scatter and wait for another day.”
There are many weapons for spiritual warfare listed in the Bible; a lot of them unknown. Even if known, we lack experience in using them.
The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 1 Corinthians 10:4
Boom! An M1 tank fires a projectile of depleted uranium which can vaporize the armor of other tanks. Same thing in spiritual battles, with our weapons energized by faith.
When I discuss spiritual warfare, I and the Bible assume its reality and that we will be attacked. Plots against you are happening right now. Some of our weapons are defensive. But many of our weapons are offensive to take back our territory (or sphere of influence) stolen from us by the evil one.
Some of these weapons are listed below:
The Foundational Four: Devotional prayer, learning to disciple others, life-giving Bible reading, and accountable relationships in fellowship. Jesus teaches that faith without foundation will quickly fall when hit by rain, floods, and even dull kitchen knives (Matthew 7:24-27).
The Spirit Releasing Many Types of Prayers. The Apostle Paul writes in Ephesians 6:18, “Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.” An amazing verse! I hear a lot about praying in the Spirit, but you must combine it with many types of prayers. That’s right, “all kinds of prayers.” Prayers develop and improve like any other type of weaponry. Are you still praying black powder with a flintlock prayer when you could be using an AR-15?
Overcoming Testimony. We listen too often to defeating testimony. Great testimonies elevate our faith to victory. I have found that overcoming testimony is a lifestyle discipline of associating with others who have continued testimony of God’s greatness. I shy away from those who constantly complain and speak defeat.
They triumphed over him [the enemy] by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. Revelation 12:11 ESV
Overcoming Blood of Jesus is the weapon that brings Overcoming Testimony. I should write dozens of Interruptions on the power of the blood, but consider the following verse in reference to both blood and testimony. Understand that purity, blood, and testimony are a trifecta of weaponry to break strongholds.
If we keep living in the pure light that surrounds Him, we share unbroken fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, continually cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:17 TPT
Jesus Praying For You! Most Christians miss this weapon completely. Wouldn’t you feel confident in any situation if Jesus prayed specifically for you? Jesus once said to Peter, “I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail.” Should we consider this an isolated incident? How about Romans 8:34, “Christ Jesus is at the right hand of God and is interceding for us”?
A logical step that you can take in spiritual warfare: “Jesus, please give me insight on what I need to do and then ask the Father specifically about this insight for me.” Jesus prays for you. What is wrong with literally asking Him to pray for you?
Thank you for reading Interruptions.
I believe that our faith allows a life-giving reading of scripture. As we understand scripture by the enlightening of God’s Spirit, solutions will be given to our problems. I share my insights through Interruptions. Would you take moment and reply to this Interruption with the e-mail address of anybody that you believe would be blessed by reading them?
