Grant Edwards by Jesus

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Who is writing your life story?

The author of Hebrews writes:

Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and creator of our faith. Hebrews 12:2 (NASB)

If you could choose the author of your life story, who would it be? Perhaps Shakespeare for elegance, John Grisham for action, and even a touch of Edgar Allen Poe for some mystery.

Fortunately, you already have someone writing your story. It is Jesus. No one better.  The image behind the word “author” in the Greek is “founder” or “originator” and thus many translations use the word “author”.

Hebrews says, “Fixing our eyes on Jesus!”

This means to look away from all else. We find the narrative of our life by looking only to Jesus. We digress by considering other plot lines.

Understanding Jesus. Realizing the theology of sovereignty. Adding that God is good, great and loving – the story God has already written for you is beyond amazing. It is eternal.

In most books you will find endorsements. Consider your life-story a bestseller with the following credits:

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed. – Apostle Paul
For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not evil, to give you a future and a hope. – Prophet Jeremiah

C.S. Lewis was once asked what it took to be a great writer. His answer: “Start writing!”  Many of us would be intimidated to write a book. The idea of “start writing” is to take it sentence by sentence. No worries with our life-story. We do not have to write the book or even a sentence – it is already written.

We read it and follow Jesus day by day.

There is a book in heaven entitled Grant Edwards by Jesus! You have a book too. Our purpose is to fix our eyes on Jesus. Don’t worry about tomorrow or the entire book.  Look carefully at today’s page – read it, obey, and celebrate.

The final chapter of Grant Edwards by Jesus ends with the eternal joy of revealed purpose.

There is another book entitled Grant Edwards by Grant Edwards. It’s not as good as the other book. Though the author is proud of the book, the story does not end as well. The plot gets confusing, purposes and story lines are lost, and the principal characters don’t develop.

Having read this book, the thought would be, “Was it worth it?”

I’m keeping the book written by Jesus.

Let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith. Hebrews 12:1-2
